Learn social and play skills in a guided group setting
Program Details
Is your child or teen ready to start learning to be around other children, play and connect in a supportive, welcoming group environment? If yes, Social Stars is right for you! This program aims to help children with autism learn early social skills like greetings, sharing, turn-taking and playing with peers.
This service includes educational sessions for caregivers, to help you support your child in maintaining their new skills. One-to-one support is available at an extra cost for children who require frequent breaks outside of the group, have difficulty regulating emotions such as frustration or worry, or to maintain safety (e.g. seizure protocol).
Sample Goals
The type of goals your child may target in this group include:
- Greet an adult by waving or saying “hi” or “bye”
- Make requests and respond to peer requests
- Ask peers to stop an undesirable behaviour
- Demonstrate coping behaviour during challenging situations
- Request to join peers in play
- Ask a question or make a comment in conversations
Funding
- OAP funding (childhood budgets, interim one-time funding, AccessOAP core clinical services funding)
- Out-of-pocket
- Charitable funds
- Private insurance
Eligibility

WHO IS NOT A FIT?
However, your child may not be eligible if they:

How It Works
ABA Group Therapy is designed to work like swimming lessons. Some children progress quickly through the levels, while others repeat a level several times to work on or reinforce a goal. Sometimes, clinicians may recommend repeating a service. Caregivers can also sign their child up for the same level again if they feel they have more to gain from the curriculum.
Below you will find an example of what your journey through our ABA Group Therapy might look like. Because every person with autism is unique, you may not need to start at step 1. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the skills build on one another. First, your child or teen should establish a communication system, then start to learn how to navigate group settings. Once this foundation is established, they can begin to develop more advanced social and emotional regulation skills.
