Calling all Surrey Place families! Are you a parent, a sibling or a caregiver with a passion for advocacy? Do you want to get more involved in the agency and have a platform to share your ideas?  

The Family Advisory Council may be a great fit for you! The Family Advisory Council is currently accepting applications for membership for the 2019-2020 year. Applications are open to all caregivers that have loved ones utilizing Surrey Place services.    

The Family Advisory Council is a committee of family members that meet monthly to help advise Surrey Place on its direction, programs, services, and new initiatives. Every month, family members come together to tackle important issues facing Surrey Place families. Members work together to provide a united voice to the agency and provide council and guidance regarding new programs and initiatives that are being launched at Surrey Place. Members direct the work of the committee and focus their energies on helping to advise Surrey Place on how to enhance their services and supports to better meet the needs of Surrey Place families. The Council plays an integral role in the strategic direction of the agency by providing input and feedback on the needs of families living within the service community. When not advising, members work together to devise their own projects and initiative in an attempt to better serve families and reduce the risk of isolation that many family members experience. If you want to have a voice, share your knowledge, advocate for your peers or just want to be more involved with Surrey Place, the Family Advisory Council may be the right fit for you!  We invite all interested family members to apply. 

Commitment Needed: 

  • Attend the 2-hour council meeting bi-monthly (with possibility of increased frequency of meeting when required) 
  • Meetings occur on the 3rd Tuesday of each month from 6-8PM 
  • Meetings are held at 2 Surrey Place 
  • Occasional tasks may be asked to be completed at home before the next meeting
