Blood Draw Toolkit is a treatment package involving systematic desensitization, relaxation strategies, a social story, video model, visual supports and both positive and differential reinforcement is used within this toolkit. Caregivers and clinicians alike will be guided through the process of progressively teaching an individual with a developmental disability to both tolerate and engage in a blood draw procedure while remaining calm at each step.
This toolkit can be used with both children and adults with a developmental disability. Factors that might affect the success of this intervention are also outlined.
The toolkit was developed by Jessica Fox (M.ADS, Senior Behaviour Therapist, Surrey Place) and Kimberley Taylor (M.ADS, BCBA, Senior Behaviour Therapist, Surrey Place).
