During these unprecedented times, caregivers are increasingly stressed with added daily responsibilities of care while not having access to typical supports. This video will explore the health risks associated with stress and anxiety and identify strategies for addressing these new challenges.
How to incorporate respite activity into your day
- If there is more than one caregiver, make a schedule to “trade-off” caregiving responsibilities
- Accept screen time
- Let there be mess
- Set alarms to remind you to take a break
- Take a family trip outside for some group respite
- Do a yoga circle with your family
- Adapted living room dancing
- Make sensory bins to occupy your child
- Rest under stars/star gaze
- Use technology to connect your children to their peers
- Have a movie night
- Schedule several bath times in the day and let your child play while you take respite breaks
- Purchase an indoor trampoline and create a “safe corner” with pillows
- Keep the household on a regular schedule of activity Mon-Fri that include wake up & bedtime
- Have a dance party
- Journal
- Co-create a schedule each day with your loved one where they actively participate in scheduling care breaks for you
