There are a variety of approaches to communication that can bring families closer to their adult children with developmental disabilities. Our Developmental Approach to Language Enhancement (DALE) workshop helps families and service providers increase their capacity to engage, interact, interpret and communicate with adults who have developmental disabilities that limit their ability to communicate verbally. Our goal is to teach families, group home workers and day program staff how to be responsive communication partners to our clients, and to recognize and respond to their often subtle non-verbal communication attempts.

What are the eligibility criteria?

To be eligible for this program, families and service providers must have an internal referral to the Developmental Approach to Language Enhancement (DALE) workshop by Surrey Place S-LP staff who complete an assessment. They must also be caregivers of adult clients of Surrey Place.
