“My name is Deborah Bluestein, and I am a therapist in our Parenting Enhancement Program. The program provides parenting skills training and support to parents with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) referred to Surrey Place from child welfare agencies, Adult Protective Services, Toronto Public Health and other community agencies. In my role, I provide face-to-face online appointments with families, involving parent training, service coordination and support. I also reach out to the community to make referrals for both the parents and children I support. Our goal is to build a community around our families, which often leads to improved outcomes for parents with IDD and their children.

Over the years, Surrey Place has encouraged me to attend various professional development opportunities to help keep me current in the field of child development, parenting and IDD. Even after close to 23 years in this role, I continue to gain skills and am challenged by the position!”
