Usability of Digital Information and Information Technology for People with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD).
Surrey Place worked in collaboration with Ontario College of Art & Design (OCAD) University and self-advocates. There were three phases to this study and each phase informed the next:
- The first phase consisted of conducting a scoping review to examine the current research on usability for people with IDD when accessing digital information and information technology.
- The second phase focused on consulting with six people with IDD and two supporters. We wanted to:
- Confirm if they have experienced the barriers identified in the scoping review,
- Explore identified or additional barriers, and
- Explore solutions to overcome the barriers when accessing ICT and digital information.
- The third phase focused on the development of a Decision Tree which provided solutions to the challenges and barriers that people with IDD experience when accessing ICT.
