Our Commitment to Client Centred Services

In April 2022, Surrey Place became the lead agency for the SmartStart Hub program in the Toronto region. Since launch, the SmartStart Hub at Surrey Place has been working collaboratively with its partners to develop a strength-based holistic intake process and establish efficient pathways for families to access services across the children’s developmental system. The new intake process uses the F-Words For Child Development, which emphasizes the importance of looking at the whole picture of a client and their family. We also involved families and caregivers in the design and are happy that it is being well-received by families accessing services.

To generate awareness, Surry Place participated in a series of outreach presentations to over 20 sector organizations consisting of leadership and front-line staff. Several community information town halls were also organized in the fall of 2022 and winter 2023 to promote the service and increased awareness.

Surrey Place is proud to announce that it was awarded Accreditation with Exemplary Standing by Accreditation Canada, the highest rating given by the accreditation program. Accreditation is a voluntary process that evaluates healthcare organizations’ clinical and operational practices against the standards of excellence. The commitment and dedication of those involved in Surrey Place’s work are once again reflected in the organization meeting 99.1% of the more than 730 unique criteria reviewed by Accreditation Canada. Surrey Place takes great pride in delivering higher quality of care and making the organization safer for clients, their families, and staff members.

Collaboration with Sarain Fox

As part of Indigenous History Month, Surrey Place partnered with Indigenous ambassador, storyteller and artist Sarain Fox to create accessible content. The content explored the impact of storytelling, mythology, national narratives, cultural history, personal experiences and assumptions and how they impact everything from simple daily interactions to clinical and business decisions. In the spotlight event Indigenous Storytelling & Reclaiming Our Voices, Sarain Fox delivered a keynote lecture about the power of storytelling to shape our perceptions and introduce new ideas about our thoughts and feelings about the world.

In the article Moving Toward a More Inclusive Future During National Indigenous History Month, Sarain Fox, along with Nichole Leveck from 2 Spirited People of the 1st Nations and Lindsay Kretschmer, Executive Director of Aboriginal Legal Services, shared their perspectives on the importance of reclaiming truth through partnership and advocacy. The article also included proactive steps that social services can take to help address inequities.

In addition, Sarain Fox also collaborated with Surrey Place self-advocate Jessica Rotolo on Stories of Belonging, a video about emphasizing the importance of allyship and reflecting on the truth of Canada’s history and relationship to the land.
